DeKalb History Center Intern
Job Description:
The DeKalb History Center offers internships to university
students each year through the Joyce Cohrs Internship Program.
Each intern gains practical work experience in the fields
of public history and archival management. While working
under the supervision of the community programs manager,
the intern assists in processing collections of manuscripts,
photographs, papers, maps, and museum objects of various
mediums. Through their work, interns are able to gain valuable
knowledge of arrangement, description, and computer cataloging
of archival materials while also learning and applying basic
preservation techniques.
The intern will also assist with other projects as they
may arise at the DeKalb History Center.
Qualifications:
+ Basic computer skills. Knowledge of Photoshop and
Past Perfect a plus.
+ Ability to work carefully and efficiently while still
giving attention to detail.
+ Strong organizational skills.
+ Appreciation of history and historic objects.
+ History, Public History, Museum Studies, Art History,
or associated field of study preferred.
Compensation:
A stipend is offered with the internship. The intern is
expected to work for a minimum of 20 hours/week for eight
to ten weeks. Scheduling is flexible and will be determined
once an intern is selected.
