The DeKalb
County Public Library maintains a terrific list
of DeKalb
County Resources. Included on this site are links
to area attractions such as Stone
Mountain Park, the Fernbank
Science Center, and the Michael
C. Carlos Museum of Emory
University.
Visitors will also find useful information on DeKalb County
through the DeKalb
Convention and Visitors Bureau and the DeKalb
Chamber of Commerce.
Another good source of information is the DeKalb
County Government homepage. This site includes
general information about the county as well as links to
DeKalb schools,
colleges,
and government agencies (currently

You can visit the City

Genealogists and researchers will want to be aware of other
archives and libraries in the area. The Society of
Georgia Archivists maintains a good list of Georgia
Repositories
on their site (currently down).
Archives of special interest for the metropolitan Atlanta
area include The Gwinnett
Historical Society in Lawrenceville, the Atlanta
History Center in Buckhead, and the Special
Collections Department of Emory University’s
Robert W. Woodruff Library.
Of course, no genealogist will want to miss the Georgia
Department of Archives and History. Their site
includes an informative guide to their reference
services.
Genealogists should also visit the US
Genweb site for DeKalb County, the homepage of
the Georgia
Genealogical Society, and the DeKalb County

maintained by Vivian Price, author of the History
of DeKalb County, Georgia, 1822-1900.
Many who research Georgia's history want to learn more about
the heritage of Georgia's Civil War era in various communities.
The Georgia
Civil War Heritage Trails provides an excellent
resource for learning more about Georgia and DeKalb County
during the Civil War.

Those interested in preservation should visit the Historic
Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural
Resources and the Georgia
Trust for Historic Preservation, the largest statewide
non-profit preservation organization in the country.

information on historical markers, be sure to visit the
site for the Georgia
Historical Marker Program run by the Georgia
Historical Society.
The Decatur
Preservation Alliance is a non-profit organization
to raise funds for the preservation of historic buildings,
landmarks, and green space in Decatur, Georgia.
