Published in 2001 this volume offers a light pictorial history of the county through vintage postcards (softcover, 128 pages, cost: $20.00)

History of DeKalb County, Georgia 1822-1900, by Vivian Price

Published in 1997 on the occasion of the 175^th anniversary of DeKalb County and the 50^th anniversary of the DeKalb Historical Society, this first edition volume is a terrific history of 19^th century DeKalb County. The appendix includes several useful genealogical resources, such as a list of Confederate Companies from DeKalb and lists of early county officials. (hardcover, 518 pages, cost: $45.00)

Life in Dixie During the War, by Mary A.H. Gay

Republished by the DeKalb Historical Society in 1979, this volume served as one of the inspirations for Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With the Wind. In this book, Mary Gay tells of her experiences in Decatur, GA during the traumatic times of the Civil War. (hardcover, 448 pages, cost: $18.00)
