Description

The Earle Carter Smith Papers include two folders of correspondence; the first contains a collection of letters dating to the period around the Civil War. The second folder is personal correspondence of Earle from the early 1930s-1950s. There is a diary written by Earle in 1918, during the First World War. This provides valuable information about life on the home front, dating in the 1910s, and life in general in the early part of the twentieth century. Included are newspaper clippings from the war and the armistice agreement. The fourth folder contains a guest book from a Smith house dating from 1937-1960. There are also several court documents dating from the early 1800s-1859.
